Income Tax Returns Deadline

Income Tax Returns Deadline: KTBA and HCSTSI Urge FBR to Extend Time

Tax experts and traders are calling for an extension in income tax return filing due to errors in the IRIS system and flooding disruptions.

KARACHI: The Karachi Tax Bar Association (KTBA) has requested the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to extend the income tax return filing deadline for Tax Year 2025 till October 31, 2025.

In its letter to FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial, KTBA highlighted serious technical issues in the IRIS system. Taxpayers are facing repeated glitches, disappearing drafts, and changes in return forms that make compliance very difficult.

The KTBA also noted that many taxpayers, particularly those from flood-affected areas, are under financial stress. Businessmen linked to agriculture are struggling with post-flood rehabilitation and cannot file returns on time.

HCSTSI Also Calls for Extension

The Hyderabad Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industry (HCSTSI) has also urged the government to extend the deadline by 48 days.

Its president, Muhammad Saleem Memon, said that the new features in IRIS, like automated data uploading and interactive forms, are still not fully functional. Taxpayers are facing login errors, receipt value issues, and verification glitches.

He added that even salaried individuals are struggling to file returns due to constant errors. In flood-hit areas, power outages, internet issues, and lack of banking services have made tax filing almost impossible.

Why Extension Is Important

  • Thousands of taxpayers face system errors.
  • Flood-affected regions are unable to comply.
  • Salaried persons also face portal issues.
  • Strict deadlines would cause unfair penalties.

Giving taxpayers more time is not relief, it is fairness.
