FBR Extends Deadline for Income Tax Returns till Oct 15
Crux: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns for Tax Year 2025 until October 15. The decision comes after pressure from trade bodies, tax bar associations, and the public.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has officially announced an extension in the deadline for filing income tax returns for Tax Year 2025.
The previous deadline of September 30 was set to expire at midnight. However, FBR extended the date till October 15, 2025.
Why FBR Extended the Deadline
The decision was taken under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001. According to FBR, the extension was granted in response to multiple requests from:
- Trade bodies
- Tax bar associations
- General taxpayers
Earlier, the FBR had stated that no extension would be given. It had also dismissed claims on social media about a possible extension as “false and misleading.”
FBR’s Earlier Position
Just a day before the announcement, FBR urged taxpayers to file returns before the September 30 deadline. The board also denied reports about:
- Floods being a reason for delay
- Integrated Risk Information System (Iris) slowing down
What This Means for Taxpayers
The extension provides relief to many individuals and businesses struggling to meet the earlier deadline. Now, taxpayers have two extra weeks to complete their filings without penalty.
If you still haven’t filed your return, this is the right time to act. Avoid last-minute issues by submitting early.
